PS Omollo Calls for Coordinated Action Against Illicit Arms at RECSA Opening Ceremony

By Njeri Irungu Nairobi, Kenya — Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Internal Security, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has urged member states of the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA) to strengthen cooperation in addressing the persistent threat of illicit small arms and light weapons in the region. Speaking at the official opening of a RECSA high-level meeting, Dr. Omollo said the region continues to face significant security challenges despite progress made over the past two decades. “We still face porous borders, weak enforcement, and poor coordination, all of which allow illegal arms to circulate and fuel insecurity,” he said. He warned that no country in the region is safe if any member state remains insecure. Dr. Omollo emphasized that illicit weapons continue to drive terrorism, organized crime, and conflict, undermining stability and economic development.
