The Anti Vandalism Unit has launched an intensified manhunt for a suspected chief vandalizer of restricted government critical infrastructure following a decisive enforcement operation in Kariobangi North that resulted in the recovery of railway metal bars and a county light mast believed to have been illegally acquired for scrap trade.
The targeted operation commanded by Anti Vandalism Police Commander Joshua Chacha involved a multi agency security deployment consisting of Anti Vandalism officers, Special Weapons and Tactics personnel, Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers and Nairobi County enforcement teams. The operation was carried out following credible intelligence linking the premises to organized vandalism and unlawful possession of restricted government infrastructure materials.

During the enforcement raid, officers secured and documented key exhibits including railway bars and a vandalized county light mast suspected to have been removed from public infrastructure installations. Several suspects believed to be employees and operational associates of the principal suspect identified as Francis were arrested and placed in lawful police custody.

However, the principal suspect Francis, described by investigators as a chief vandalizer of restricted government infrastructure, escaped and is currently in hiding, prompting security agencies to launch an active manhunt to locate and apprehend him.

Investigators indicated that the suspect is notorious for operating an organized vandalism network targeting railway installations and public lighting infrastructure, with the stolen materials allegedly disguised and traded as scrap metal.
Security officers further revealed that previous enforcement operations at the premises have encountered organized resistance, with the suspect allegedly mobilizing hired goons and local collaborators to obstruct law enforcement action. In earlier operations, officers reportedly faced hostility and physical attacks, although the latest operation was successfully executed without major confrontation despite the suspect's escape.

The arrested suspects were processed and detained at Shauri Moyo Police Station pending arraignment in court on Monday.
Commander Joshua Chacha confirmed that sustained enforcement operations will continue against scrap metal operators and criminal networks involved in infrastructure vandalism, warning that security agencies will maintain operational pressure until the principal suspect is arrested and charged.

Police also confirmed that follow up operations are underway targeting additional scrap metal operators suspected of handling vandalized infrastructure materials, with further arrests expected as investigations progress.
