ISAREL BEGINS TRANSFER OF TAX REVENUE TO PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY, US SAYS
The United States Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says Israel has agreed to start to transfer tax revenues it collects from Palestinians to the Palestinian Authority (PA).
Yellen said money had already begun to flow and that it this must continue. Under current peace accords, Israel’s Finance Ministry collects taxes from Palestinians and makes monthly transfers to the PA.
About a month after the October 7 attacks, Israeli authorities decided to withhold funds earmarked for the Gaza Strip. The PA refused to accept a partial transfer of money.
Yellen said she also urged PM Netanyahu, in a recent letter, to reinstate work permits for Palestinians and reduce barriers to commerce within the occupied West Bank.
