DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION PUBLIC SECTOR FORUM AND AWARDS TO REWARD TOP-PERFORMING GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS.
8th February 2024.
The Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, in partnership with Greydale Africa, is set to host the Digital Transformation Public Sector (DTPS) Forum and Awards on February 22nd and 23rd this year at the White Sands Hotel in Mombasa. This event aims to celebrate innovation and achievements in government digitization.
The forum will recognize individuals who have made significant achievements in the Digital Transformation Agenda, inform the public of current and future developments, and identify the achievements made as the public sector strives for greater digital efficiency. The event will also highlight the significant progress achieved through public-private partnerships, with deserving leaders from different public sector departments being honored.
Speaking earlier today during a press briefing in Nairobi, the Principal Secretary for ICT and Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui said the event would reveal successful digital achievements and solutions in government ministries, departments, and agencies.
"The digital transformation of the public sector is not just about adopting new technologies; it's about fundamentally changing how we serve our citizens. This forum will provide a platform for leaders to learn from each other's experiences and drive meaningful change." PS State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy Eng. John Tanui, MBS, said.
Some of the current and future digital transformations achieved through public and private partnerships include:
Building a Network of Opportunity:
One thousand four hundred fifty digital hubs in every ward: Accessible training and online resources. These hubs will empower citizens with the skills and tools they need to thrive in the digital age.
Twenty-five thousand free public Wi-Fi hotspots in the market and public transport bus stages to ensure seamless access to the online world, fostering information sharing and opportunity.
Powering Up Connectivity:
Expanding fiber optic network: Adding 100,000 kilometers of fiber optic cables to the existing 300,000 kilometers creates a robust nationwide network that speeds up internet access and unlocks its full potential.
Lowering Internet costs: Collaboration between the public and private sectors is critical to reducing Internet costs and making connectivity more affordable.
Broadband for All:
Two million new broadband connections: The goal is to increase the current 1.2 million broadband connections to 3.2 million in the short term and reach a staggering 8.5 million in the long run. This will significantly improve internet speed and benefit urban and rural communities.
Lavinniah Muthoni Mwongera, Greydale Africa's managing partner, noted, "The private sector has specialized knowledge and capacity that helps government implement cost-effective digital transformation. We believe that sharing success stories and best practices can inspire others to embark on their digital transformation journey. The two-day DTPS forum will allow the private and public sectors to engage."
AWS – Robin Njiru, Regional Lead (WWPS) – West, East & Central commented;
"At AWS, we help our customers turn their ideas into opportunities, creating new ways to grow, increasing their efficiency, and serving their customers better. More specifically, public sector organizations, for DTPS forums and awards, tap into the power of the cloud for them to serve citizens more effectively to accelerate their innovation and also to be able to enhance their digital transformation."
