THE WESTMINSTER FOUNDATION FOR DEMOCRACY WITH DEMO FINLAND  LAUNCH THE NATIONAL DISABILITY MULTI-PARTY By

The Westminster Foundation  for Democracy ((WFD) in collaboration with Demo  Finland have on 19th of March launched a strategic caucus to National Disability Multi-party (NDMC) in Nairobi to promote inclusive and accountable politics in the country.
The launch was collectively joined with different political parties leaders and government officials to support and create a sustainable development for people with disabilities in the political arena.
The strategy marks a pivotal moment in Kenya's political landscape, signaling a concerted effort to prioritize the rights and representation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) within the realm of politics.

Among the political leaders who actively contributed to the launch is Martha Karua  of Narc Party ,former cabinet secretary Eugene wamalwa who openly congratulated the Westminster for the ceaseless support in the political arena .
WFD, a non-departmental public body with a mandate to strengthen multi-party democracies, has been actively engaged in Kenya since 2009, focusing on parliamentary strengthening, civil society engagement, and political inclusion. Through its collaboration with Demo Finland, WFD has been implementing the Kenya Inclusive Political Parties Programme (KIPP), aimed at bolstering the capacity of political parties and strategic actors to champion disability issues.
The caucus brings together representatives from the 20 political parties committed to advancing inclusive multi-party democracy, with a focus on setting a common agenda conducive to PWD engagement in political processes. By fostering collaboration among diverse political entities, the NDMC aims to ensure that disability issues remain at the forefront of the political agenda, driving tangible progress towards inclusive governance.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, NARC Kenya party leader Hon martha Karua emphasized the importance of political will in promoting disability rights and representation. She  highlighted the NDMC as a testament to Kenya's commitment to upholding the principles of inclusivity and equality in its democratic processes.

"The establishment of the NDMC underscores the collective resolve of political parties to address the challenges faced by PWDs and create an enabling environment for their meaningful participation in political affairs. Through collaborative efforts and sustained advocacy, the caucus endeavors to drive policy reforms and institutional changes that will enhance the political empowerment of PWDs across Kenya.".

As the NDMC embarks on its journey, stakeholders expressed optimism about the transformative impact it will have on Kenya's political landscape. With a firm commitment to inclusivity and diversity, the caucus stands poised to shape a more equitable and representative democracy, where the voices of all citizens, including those with disabilities, are heard .
