NAIROBI REGIONAL CONFERENCE COAXED GOVERNMENT ACTION TO  CEASE IMPOVERISHING CITIZENS AND RESOLVE HEALTHCARE CRISIS.

The National Council of Churches of Kenya(NCCK) have asked president William Ruto to ensure investigation is done into the allegations of fake fertilizer and those involved are punished for destroying the government's name and exposing Kenyans to a risk.
The 14th Nairobi Regional Conference, took place  at Jumuia Conference and Country Home in Limuru from April 3rd to 4th, 2024, brought together delegates to highlight urgent issues affecting Kenyans.
 The theme of the conference tagged as  "Dignified Livelihoods, Resilient Communities," the conference emphasized the importance of uplifting citizens and fostering resilience.
The major  priorities  highlighted by the conference was the systematic impoverishment of Kenyan citizens due to political and social governance structures. The conference crucially called on both national and county governments to promptly  address the major is problems facing their counties such as poverty and prioritize the prosperity of citizens.

Recommendations emerged from the conference  including a transformative strategies to combating corruption. Urging collaboration among key institutions like the Judiciary, National Police Service, Parliament, and the Executive to tackle corruption effectively. Additionally, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was encouraged to focus on instilling ethics and integrity through educational initiatives.

The conference also highlighted the need imperative need to  dignify livelihoods by creating conducive business environments and allievating tax burdens. It advocated for simplified processes for starting and running businesses, citing efficacy of the Huduma Center model. Furthermore, a call was made for development partners to support entrepreneurship training, particularly tailored for youth, women, and men.

The distribution of fake fertilizer was strongly  denounced stressing on the significance of integrity and accountability in government agencies like the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).

Parallel to economic concerns, alarms were raised by the confrence regarding  the ongoing healthcare sector crisis, urging governments to prioritize the welfare of healthcare workers and the public healthcare system.
Kanga also asked Health CS Susan Nakhumicha to ensure doctors strike is resolved.He said those who are suffering are poor Kenyans who need urgent medical attention.
“We have witnessed patients crying in pain. They cannot go to private hospitals since they cannot afford. Some had appointments with doctors and the dates are gone. We have a problem and it needs urgent attention” he said.
Kanga also asked Health CS Susan Nakhumicha to ensure doctors strike is resolved.He said those who are suffering are poor Kenyans who need urgent medical attention.
The conference eventually called for comprehensive civic sensitization on the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, emphasizing the need for public involvement in decisions with significant impact, including potential constitutional amendments.

In a nut shell the confrence concluded  with the appointment of new officials slated to steer operations from 2024 to 2027, propelling  its agenda to positive change and dignified livelihoods for all residents of the Nairobi Region and beyond.
