THE 5TH AFRICA WOMEN SUMMIT KICKSTARTS IN NAIROBI, KENYA

The 5th Edition of Africa Women Summit kicks off in Nairobi, bringing together esteemed women from across Africa. The summit brings together influential leaders, advocates, experts, and stakeholders from across the continent and the globe to address critical issues surrounding women’s health.
With the theme “Women’s Health: Empowering Voices, Inspiring Change,” the summit seeks to create a platform for open dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaborative action to improve women’s health outcomes in Africa.
The summit was officially opened by the Chairperson for Women Empowerment in Africa Dr. Tuma Adama, who welcomed hundreds of women, setting the tone for the three days of empowerment, collaboration, and progress.

In her keynote address, Dr. Tuma expressed profound honor and privilege in welcoming everyone to the summit, while underscoring the significance of the summit as a beacon of hope and inspiration for women across the continent.
Dr. Tuma also emphasized the urgent need to prioritize women's well-being as a fundamental human right and catalyst for sustainable development. Drawing from recent statistics from the World Health Organization, she highlighted the alarming prevalence of drug use disorders, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and HIV/AIDS among women in Africa.
Further, Dr. Tuma called for concerted efforts from experts, advocates, academics, and donor institutions to address the pressing health challenges; stressing the importance of breaking the silence, challenging barriers to access to healthcare, and empowering women to take control of their own health and well-being.
The Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, representing Her Excellency Mama Rachel Ruto, First Lady of Kenya, to the summit, highlighted the urgent need for collaborative efforts to address pressing health challenges faced by women in Africa.

Hon. Nakhumicha emphasized the importance of economic empowerment, regional collaboration, and youth empowerment in driving positive change. Discussions centered on various topics, including the economic empowerment of women, access to healthcare, gender-based violence, and youth empowerment.
The summit also witnessed the launch of the “Nairobi Declaration” on access to healthcare for rural women in Africa, signaling a commitment to advancing policy development and implementation in the region.
Hon. Nakhumicha urged participants to leverage their collective strength and resources to create an inclusive and prosperous Africa. She emphasized the role of collaboration, advocacy, and community engagement in driving meaningful change.
