KENYA RESEARCH FESTIVAL TO SHOWCASE GROUNDBREAKING INNOVATIONS AND YOUTH TALENT

The festival will serve as a platform to showcase the groundbreaking discoveries and innovations of Kenyan researchers.

The inaugural Kenya National Research Festival (KNRF) is poised to be a transformative event that will celebrate, engage, and advance research excellence across the country and internationally.

The event was officially launched today at a stakeholder engagement forum attended by a diverse pool of partners, including government officials, industry leaders, academia, and members of the media.

In her keynote address, Dr. Beatrice Muganda Inyangala, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Higher Education and Research, emphasized the critical role of Research, Science, Technology, and Innovation (RSTI) in driving social and economic development.

She highlighted the successes of countries that have focused on harnessing the power of research, citing examples from Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia.

“Research plays a pivotal role in shaping the course of nations, fostering innovations that address critical societal challenges,” said Dr. Inyangala.

“Recognizing the transformative power of research, the National Research Fund (NRF) in collaboration with Young Scientists Kenya (YSK) have organized the inaugural edition of the Kenya National Research Festival.”

The festival will serve as a platform to showcase the groundbreaking discoveries and innovations of Kenyan researchers, as well as provide a catalyst for collaboration, dialogue, and collective action.

It will also feature the 7th YSK National Science and Technology Exhibition, which will bring together over 1,000 students from 390 schools across 47 counties to showcase their scientific talents and compete in research projects.

Dr. Inyangala emphasized the crucial role of stakeholders in shaping the success of the research festival.

She urged the audience to support the event through sponsorship, exhibition space, in-kind contributions, and by utilizing their networks to raise awareness and encourage participation.

“By supporting this event, you will play a crucial role in fostering innovation and promoting knowledge-sharing among the research community,” said Dr. Inyangala.

The event was also graced by the presence of Prof. Dickson Andala, the Chief Executive Officer of NRF, who highlighted the transformative power of research and innovation, Prof. Andala emphasized that Research, Science, Technology, and Innovation (RSTI) are essential catalysts for Kenya’s socio-economic development.

He noted that many of the world’s leading economies attribute their growth and competitiveness to significant investments in research and technology, and that Kenya is no exception, with the country’s rapid strides towards industrialization and modernization fueled by its dedication to harnessing the potential of RSTI.

The Inaugural Kenya National Research Festival, according to Prof. Andala, is not just a celebration of researchers’ groundbreaking discoveries and innovations, but a platform that fosters collaboration, dialogue, and collective action.
