Kibra Community Unites for Black Tie Fundraiser to Transform Local Sports Facility
Nairobi, September 20, 2024 – A significant stride toward enhancing youth sports in Kibra took place on September 20, 2024, as Hon. Peter Ochieng Orero, Kibra MP, officiated the #488ForKibra black tie fundraising dinner at the Serena Hotel. The initiative seeks to raise KSh 66 million to transform the Olympic Primary School field into a modern, 24-hour multipurpose pitch, benefiting over 5,500 children and the wider Kibra community.

Among the esteemed guests at the event was Rev. Jesse Mwai from CITAM, media personality Cynthia Nyamai, and the Head of RIG East Africa.
Cynthia Nyamai, who notably completed a 488-kilometer walk from Mombasa to Nairobi to raise awareness and funds for this cause, emphasized the need for community involvement. "Our churches must make an impact. This is our opportunity to contribute to transformative change," she urged attendees, advocating for a collective effort to uplift the community.

In his address, Orero also highlighted the importance of reforming the university education funding model to better support disadvantaged students, stressing the need for thorough research to address their needs effectively.
With the dinner marking a pivotal moment in the #488ForKibra campaign, both Nyamai and Orero called on Kenyans to rally together to ensure a brighter future for Kibra's youth through sports.
