The BETA Plan Aims to Revolutionize Health and Housing Sectors

Nairobi, Kenya – The government, through its ambitious Beta Plan, has outlined key initiatives aimed at transforming the health and housing sectors, focusing on providing affordable services to all Kenyans. Speaking earlier today in Nairobi, government spokesperson Dr. Isaac Mwaura emphasized the importance of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and modern housing as pillars for a prosperous nation.

"The Beta Plan seeks to ensure that every Kenyan has access to quality healthcare and a decent living environment," Dr. Mwaura said during the briefing. "Through the Kenya Urban Support Program, in partnership with county governments, we are constructing modern markets with essential amenities, providing a conducive environment for Mama Mbogas and other hustlers."

At the heart of the Beta Plan is the establishment of the Social Health Authority (SHA), which is tasked with implementing a series of reforms aimed at achieving UHC. The government will prioritize employment for community health workers, who will play a key role in the Primary Healthcare System. “Community health workers are essential to providing preventive and promotive health services in our communities,” noted Dr. Mwaura. "This also aligns with our goal of ensuring equal pay for equal work among healthcare professionals."

The introduction of new legal frameworks, such as the Primary Healthcare Act and the Social Health Insurance Act (SHIF), will replace the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). SHIF will ensure all Kenyans have access to affordable healthcare without the burden of financial hardship. "We are shifting to a system where healthcare will be accessible to all, regardless of income level. Monthly premiums will be reduced from Ksh 500 to Ksh 300 to accommodate all sectors," Mwaura explained.

On housing, Dr. Mwaura highlighted efforts to construct modern, affordable homes in urban areas. "By partnering with counties, we aim to provide quality, affordable housing that meets the needs of all citizens, especially those in low-income brackets," he said.

The Beta Plan underscores the government's commitment to improving the well-being of its citizens through sustainable health and housing reforms that will benefit both urban and rural communities.
