Kenya’s Commission for University Education Launches Strategic Plan for 2024–2028

The Cabit Secretary of Education Julius Ogamba together with the Commission for University Education (CUE) today unveiled its Strategic Plan for 2024–2028, marking a pivotal step toward transforming Kenya’s higher education landscape.

The mission of the plan is to provide quality and sustainable university education and promotion and quality relevant and sustainable university education by setting standard monitoring compliance undertaking research and providing policy advisory.
According to the CS the plan is designed to strategic objectives that seek to acquire accountability and equitable allocation of resources.
He added " we are working towards ensuring university are our of debt in the next four years .No student should be left behind due to geographical area this strategy will ensure accessof education to all kenyans.
This new blueprint, which aligns with both national and global educational policies, is designed to make universities key drivers in the country's education reform and economic growth.
The CUE Strategic Plan responds to recommendations from the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) report, which advocates significant changes within the university subsector.
A primary focus of the plan is supporting the shift to Competency-Based Education (CBE), emphasizing the delivery of practical and industry-relevant skills to ensure that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of Kenya's evolving economy.
A core pillar of the plan is strengthening institutional capacity. This entails not only enhancing CUE’s internal capabilities but also empowering universities with the necessary resources, skills, and infrastructure to remain competitive on a global scale.
By positioning universities as central players in educational reforms, the plan seeks to ensure that the institutions can adapt to a rapidly changing world and address workforce needs.
The government has expressed strong support for the Strategic Plan, underscoring its alignment with the broader national agenda of quality, relevant, and sustainable education.
As universities adopt this roadmap, Kenya’s higher education sector aims to meet the country's economic and societal ambitions over the next four years, setting a new standard for educational excellence across the region.
