The Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, has launched a groundbreaking peacebuilding and security initiative aimed at tackling extremism across East Africa.
The program brings together religious leaders, women leaders, and community stakeholders to foster unity and counter violent extremism through education, dialogue, and localized support systems.
In collaboration with regional security agencies and various faith-based organizations, Dr. Omollo’s office is prioritizing a community-led approach, recognizing the crucial roles that religious and women leaders play in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
By engaging these influential groups, the initiative seeks to create a resilient network that addresses the underlying factors contributing to radicalization and extremism within communities.
“We believe that sustainable peace comes from within communities themselves,” said Dr. Omollo. “By partnering with religious leaders and empowering women at the grassroots, we’re building a strong foundation that not only counters extremism but also fosters an environment where peace and security can thrive across borders.”
The initiative will roll out in phases, beginning with workshops and training sessions for religious and women leaders on conflict resolution, mediation, and preventive measures against radicalization. It will also support projects that amplify women’s voices in security, economic empowerment, and educational programs for youth.
This regional peacebuilding effort underscores Kenya’s commitment to fostering stability across East Africa and promoting long-term security.
Dr. Omollo expressed confidence that the program will lead to lasting change, reinforcing communities against extremism by drawing upon the strength of their cultural and spiritual heritage.
