In a decisive move, the Wiper Democratic Movement led by Hon.Stephen Musyoka t has expelled Dadaab MP Farah Maalim from the party, citing "hateful remarks" and defiance of party positions.
The decision was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting chaired by party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday.
Maalim, who served as the party’s vice-chairperson, is accused of making inflammatory statements against protesting Kenyan youth during a weekend rally. While Maalim has denied the allegations, claiming the video evidence circulating online was manipulated, the NEC recommended his removal from all parliamentary committees, including the influential Speaker’s Panel.

Wiper Secretary General Shakila Abdalla emphasized the party’s position, saying, “Regarding the conduct and statements attributed to Deputy Party Leader Farah Maalim, let it be known clearly that the Wiper Democratic Movement distances and disassociates itself from these remarks.”
Abdalla further stated that Maalim's expulsion will be presented for ratification at the party's National Delegates Convention (NDC), its highest decision-making body.
The former deputy speaker is also one of four Wiper MPs accused of defying the party’s stance on the controversial Finance Bill, which has faced widespread opposition. The other MPs, Dorice Donya (Kisii), John Bwire (Taita Taveta), and Abubakar Ahmed (nominated), either skipped the vote or sided with the government to pass the contentious legislation.
The NEC referred the cases of the four MPs to the party’s disciplinary committee, with Abdalla noting their failure to attend Wednesday’s meeting despite official invitations.
“Their cases have been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee. We believe strongly in the fidelity of political parties, their mission, vision, and identity,” she added.
The crackdown comes amid heightened scrutiny of opposition MPs who have defied party lines. Last week, ODM, a key ally in the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition, announced plans to recall six MPs who supported the Finance Bill, terming the move a warning to other members.
As both Wiper and ODM double down on discipline within their ranks, the opposition coalition is sending a strong message to dissenters: loyalty to party policies is non-negotiable.
Maalim’s political future now hangs in the balance, with the party’s disciplinary processes set to determine his next steps.
The party leader also highlighted on the issue regarding abduction in the country and detesting the act ,he boldly asks the government to provide concrete answers on the issue and should be stopped.
The Opposition accused the Kenya Kwanza government of operating as a “renegade criminal enterprise,” citing abductions and secret detention practices. “If the Attorney General of the Republic cannot find answers for his own son’s abduction, who can?” the statement posed, questioning the regime's commitment to justice and transparency.
He finally reminded the Kenya Kwanza government about the GenZ protest that happened mid last year and naming the government as unfit to rule and therefore should be dissolved.
“If Mr. Ruto refuses to respect and enforce Kenya's Constitution, the solution is straightforward: he should resign,” the Opposition stated.
