15th Annual KEMRI Scientific and Health Conference Opens in Nairobi, Focuses on Innovation and Sustainable Healthcare

The 15th Annual Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Scientific and Health (KASH) Conference kicked off today at the Safari Park Hotel and Casino in Nairobi, bringing together over 800 experts, researchers, and policymakers. This year’s event, under the theme “Research, Technology, and Innovation for a Sustainable Health System,” underscores the importance of scientific research in transforming Kenya’s healthcare sector.

The conference, which spans several days, serves as a platform for stakeholders to share ideas, present research, and form collaborations to address public health challenges. One of the key highlights of the event was the focus on digital health, emerging diseases, and the integration of artificial intelligence in medical research. The Ministry of Health, through the PS, also reiterated its commitment to strengthening community-driven health initiatives. “The Ministry of Health remains committed to strengthening partnerships that drive community-centered Universal Health Coverage that will transform healthcare in the country,” Muthoni added.
KEMRI Board Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ali, noted that the insights shared during the conference would significantly influence national health policies and research priorities. “Health is key to development, and we must address healthcare disparities through innovation, collaboration, and investment,” said Dr. Ali.

It is an opportunity to strengthen networks, inspire innovation, and create actionable solutions that will redefine the future of healthcare,” she said.
The conference also drew attention to the importance of integrating community-driven initiatives into the broader health policy framework. With discussions set to continue over the coming days, the event aims to explore innovative approaches to building a stronger, more sustainable healthcare system for Kenya.
KEMRI’s leadership, including Acting Director-General Professor Elijah Songok, along with the Board of Directors, including Mr. Luka Chemwolo, Dr. Damaris Maweu, and others, were present at the conference’s opening. As Kenya continues to strive for a leadership role in health research and innovation, the KASH Conference remains a pivotal platform for shaping the country’s healthcare future.
