Lake Side Caucus of Student Leaders Extends Support to Raila Odinga and Proposes Student Involvement in African Union

By Jared Odhiambo
The Lake Side Caucus of student leaders from universities across Kenya has congratulated Raila Amolo Odinga for his pursuit of the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
While acknowledging the external factors that influenced the AUC election outcome, the student leaders expressed their continued support for the African Union’s mission of unity, peace, and prosperity. They also commended President William Ruto’s support for Odinga’s candidacy.
In a joint statement, the student leaders proposed initiatives to increase student participation in the African Union’s work. These include establishing student shadowing programs at the AU, creating Pan-African university forums, and setting up AU Centers for Democracy and Governance in universities across Africa. The Caucus believes such initiatives will empower young Africans to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s progress.
The student leaders are seeking guidance and collaboration from President Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to push these proposals forward. Their goal is to foster a future where Pan-African ideals and democratic governance are central to Africa’s development.
The Caucus called on the African Union to support these proposals, ensuring the voices of young Africans are heard in shaping the continent’s future.
