New Generation Aspirants Unveil Youth-Led Roadmap for a New Kenya

By James Nyaigoti

Kenya’s emerging crop of youthful leaders has today  launched a bold political movement aimed at reimagining the country’s future through youth-led leadership, unity, and structural reform. Under the banner New Generation Aspirants (NGA), the diverse coalition of young political hopefuls from across the country presented a unified roadmap for national renewal and transformation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The movement, dubbed "The New Generation Aspirants Youth Led Roadmap for a New Kenya", drew hundreds of aspirants ranging from grassroots to presidential contenders. Central to the day’s activities was the signing of the Ufungamano Declaration a document committing the coalition to a just, inclusive, and people-centered leadership agenda.

“This is our moment”

Lavani Miller, co-convener of the NGA forum, delivered a passionate call to action:

“We are tired of the status quo. We are tired of a government that continually sidelines its youth. This time, we’re not just protesting—we are organizing. We are offering a structured, constitutional pathway to leadership.”

Miller emphasized that the forum is not exclusive to youth, but is driven by a youthful spirit of accountability, unity, and innovation.

“Leadership is not about age. It is about vision. Our aim is to mobilize the 75% of Kenyans under 35 and give them a seat at the table or build a new one if we must.”

Building an Alternative

John Kamau, the organizing chairperson for NGA, described the event as a historic first step in consolidating the youth vote.

“We are no longer content being political spectators. In 2027, we will be on the ballot—from MCA to the presidency,” said Kamau. “We’re done watching the same recycled leaders rebrand themselves with new slogans but no substance.”

The movement, he explained, is about offering a genuine alternative to a generation frustrated by economic stagnation, corruption, and poor governance.

Reclaiming Nairobi, Reclaiming the Nation

Among the aspirants present was Dr. Ben Ngigi, a PhD holder in Business Administration, who announced his bid for Nairobi Governor. Dr. Ngigi lambasted the current administration’s failure to tackle critical issues like flooding, urban planning, unemployment, and systemic corruption.

“Our capital city is drowning in sewage, cartels run public services, and our youth are resorting to crime out of desperation,” he said. “We need leaders with integrity—leaders who see public office as a responsibility, not a chance to loot.”

He proposed an ambitious agenda that includes overhauling the city’s drainage and garbage systems, modernizing transport, and creating employment pathways for creatives and marginalized youth.

A New Political Vehicle in the Making

Though not formally announcing a political party, the forum hinted at an impending formation or coalition of youth-led parties and movements.

“Whether we unite under one party or form a coalition, what matters is unity,” said Kamau. “We cannot afford to be divided in 2027.”

Miller echoed this sentiment, emphasizing grassroots engagement as the next phase:

“From here, we head to the mashinani. We’re going to the people—to the mamas, the vijana, the wazee—because this is their movement too.”

The NGA also announced a nationwide listening tour that will serve as both a mobilization effort and a platform to draft their shared people-driven agenda.

In a message to Kenya’s youth, Miller concluded:

“This is our time. It doesn’t matter your background, your religion, your tribe—if you believe in a better Kenya, this is your moment. Join us.”

As Kenya eyes the next general election, the NGA’s emergence signals a potential reshaping of the political landscape—one that could finally place the country’s most populous demographic at the helm of its leadership.
