The Nairobi Hospital Board Breaks Silence Amid Governance Crisis, Vows Stability and Quality Care

Nairobi, Kenya – The Nairobi Hospital Board has issued a public statement pledging unwavering commitment to quality healthcare and institutional reform, as the hospital faces increasing scrutiny over internal disputes and a high-profile criminal investigation.


Speaking during a press briefing held at the hospital’s amphitheatre on Tuesday, newly appointed Board Chair Barcley Onyambu addressed the growing concerns about the hospital’s leadership and integrity, assuring the public that operations remain stable and uninterrupted.

“Leadership confidence is vital to any institution, particularly one central to the health of the community,” Onyambu stated. “The recent reports on integrity and leadership are isolated and do not detract from our focus. The Board continues to work cohesively, guided by a strong leadership team and a commitment to shared values.”

The hospital, a premier private healthcare institution in the region, has come under the spotlight following an investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which was launched after a dramatic raid on the facility. The probe has sparked concerns over patient data confidentiality and the hospital’s governance structure.

The High Court has since intervened, issuing a stay on the investigation and granting anticipatory bail to members of the Board.

In the midst of the legal battle, the hospital has initiated a board restructuring process, introducing new members with varied expertise in a bid to bolster oversight and strategic direction.

“We believe that the changes we have made will accelerate our momentum towards institutional excellence,” Onyambu said.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Felix Osano reinforced the hospital’s dedication to its mission, stating that the leadership team is taking decisive steps to address the ongoing challenges.

“We are taking decisive steps to address challenges and ensure The Nairobi Hospital remains a beacon of trust and quality healthcare in Kenya,” Osano said.

In recent months, the institution has also battled internal friction, including the controversial suspension of medical personnel and leadership struggles within its top ranks. These issues have triggered public outcry and calls for a leadership overhaul.

Despite the turmoil, Onyambu emphasized that the hospital is taking robust measures to ensure business continuity and safeguard core services.

“We recognise that we will be judged by how well we lead the hospital beyond this period,” he said. “Our dedicated staff continues to deliver uninterrupted and quality service to the public.”

As the hospital navigates its most turbulent period in years, its leadership appears determined to steady the ship and restore public trust in its mission.
