Nairobi Hospital Rescinds Tariff Adjustments After Talks With Insurers
Nairobi, Kenya – August 15, 2025
The Nairobi Hospital has moved to reassure the public and patients that medical services at the facility remain accessible at previous rates after revoking recent tariff adjustments that had sparked concerns from insurers and patients.
In a press briefing on Friday, the hospital’s management confirmed that although it had marginally increased the prices of some medical products and services by an average of 5% due to rising operational costs, the decision was withdrawn following consultations with insurance companies.“Mutual goodwill prevailed in a constructive dialogue, and the hospital rescinded the tariff adjustments to allow for further dialogue,” the statement read. “Patients would continue accessing services at the previous rates.”
The hospital noted that the earlier price review had been informed by increases in the cost of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and other essential supplies. However, the adjustments had prompted some insurers to suspend services at the facility and issue advisories to their clients on August 8.
Senior management at The Nairobi Hospital said they held a meeting with insurance representatives on August 11 to address the impasse and explore sustainable solutions.“We are ready to work with our insurance partners to ensure flawless service to our patients,” the hospital emphasized. “We continue to provide care to all patients at the rates that were in place prior to adjustments.”
The 71-year-old premier specialist hospital, regarded as the largest stand-alone private hospital in Eastern, Southern, and Central Africa said it remains committed to offering the highest quality healthcare to its patients despite the prevailing economic challenges.
Patients covered by medical insurance have been advised to liaise directly with their providers to confirm coverage and clarify any disruptions in service.
The hospital reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with insurers while prioritizing patients’ needs.“The Nairobi Hospital remains committed to dialogue with our insurance partners while ensuring timely and quality care to all our patients,” the statement concluded.
