Global Youth Peace Conference Opens in Nairobi
By Liz Anyango
Nairobi has become the epicenter of global dialogue on peace as a four-day Youth Peace Conference opened this week at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence, Arboretum.
The meeting, launched by His Eminence Dr. Madhu Krishan — Founder of the Academy of Universal Global Peace (AUGP) and Rector of the University for Global Peace — has drawn peace advocates, dignitaries, and faith leaders from across the world. Among the distinguished guests are Archbishop Prof. Cletus Bassey from the USA and Brother Ronnie Makabai from Uganda.
With youth at its heart, the conference is championing a bold call: peace is not just an aspiration, but a responsibility. Dr. Krishan challenged young people to lead with integrity and compassion, noting that their choices today will shape global transformation tomorrow.
Workshops, keynote speeches, and panel discussions are lined up, tackling pressing issues such as conflict resolution, climate change, social justice, and sustainable development. Delegates are also engaging in hands-on sessions designed to sharpen leadership, mediation, and advocacy skills.
Archbishop Bassey urged participants to embrace diversity and moral accountability as pillars of peace, while Brother Makabai highlighted the enduring power of faith and spirituality in reconciliation. Their messages struck a chord, underscoring the urgency of unity across cultures, religions, and nations.
The Nairobi forum will culminate in a Youth Declaration on Peace and Unity, a document that will present a roadmap for youth-led solutions and be shared with governments and international peace bodies.
With this conference, Nairobi is once again asserting its place as a global hub for mediation, interfaith cooperation, and youth-centered initiatives.
As the voices of young leaders rise, the city is now the stage where the next generation is shaping a vision for a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable world.
