Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Senate Minority Leader Edwin Sifuna, and Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina have emerged as the top performers in a new nationwide opinion survey released by Leeway Africa Research Agency (LARA).
The survey, conducted between August 15 and 26, 2025, engaged 4,650 registered voters drawn from all 47 counties. It employed stratified and random sampling with proportional representation and carried a margin of error of plus or minus three percent at a confidence level of 95 percent. The poll assessed the approval ratings of leaders in three categories: Governors, Senators, and Women Representatives.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata topped the governors’ list with an approval rating of 71.2 percent, celebrated for his ambitious development agenda that has significantly reshaped Murang’a County. His administration has prioritized healthcare, expanded access to clean and safe water, and initiated social empowerment programs that have uplifted thousands of households. Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa followed closely with 69.5 percent, recognized for his bold strides in industrial growth, revitalization of county projects, and reforms that have improved efficiency in public service. Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir also featured prominently with 67.8 percent, praised for his urban renewal initiatives, education support programs, and advancement of the tourism and blue economy sectors, which are central to the coastal region’s prosperity.
In the Senate, Edwin Sifuna commanded the highest approval rating at 72.4 percent, admired for his fearless pursuit of accountability, his defense of constitutionalism, and his unyielding commitment to the welfare of ordinary citizens. Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot registered 69.1 percent, earning recognition for his leadership in steering crucial legislation and strengthening parliamentary oversight. Nairobi Senator Karen Nyamu posted 66.9 percent, praised for her accessibility to citizens, consistent grassroots engagement, and visible involvement in social empowerment programs.

Among Women Representatives, Murang’a’s Hon. Betty Maina led the country with an impressive 68.9 percent approval rating. She was commended for her inclusive leadership style and her focus on transformative programs in education, healthcare, and women empowerment. Laikipia Woman Representative Hon. Jane Kagiri followed with 67.4 percent, recognized for her dedication to education access and community development. Kisumu’s Hon. Ruth Odinga scored 66.7 percent, praised for her vigorous advocacy for youth and women alongside her record of delivering inclusive development projects. Other top performers included Homa Bay’s Hon. Gladys Wanga with 65.8 percent, celebrated for her economic empowerment initiatives, and Meru’s Hon. Elizabeth Kailemia with 64.9 percent, commended for her fight against gender-based violence and investment in social services.
According to Ms. Joy, the lead data analyst at Leeway Africa Research Agency, the findings reflect a clear and consistent message from Kenyans. She explained that the survey was meticulously executed by her research team, who worked with county-level enumerators to ensure accurate and verifiable data collection.

“These rankings affirm that performance, accountability, and service delivery remain the strongest indicators of trust between leaders and the electorate,” Ms. Joy stated on behalf of the research team.

As the nation edges closer to the 2027 general election, the results are likely to shape political discourse and influence how leaders are judged, with those delivering visible results setting the benchmark for service-oriented leadership.
