Nairobi ODM Women Demand Catherine’s Exit, Back Rosemary for Chairlady Position
Nairobi, September 7, 2025 -Tension is rising within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) women’s wing in Nairobi as members mount pressure on longtime chairlady Catherine Okoth to step down. The women argue that her two-decade tenure has stagnated the league, locking out fresh ideas and effective leadership.
The growing discontent has opened the door for Rosemary Okuta, who is now being fronted as the face of change. Many members believe she represents integrity, unity, and progress, qualities they say are urgently needed to revitalize the women’s movement in the county.
Okoth’s extended stay in office has increasingly drawn criticism, with members accusing her of failing to deliver meaningful growth or empower women at the grassroots level. Calls for her resignation have now gained momentum, signaling a looming political showdown that could reshape ODM’s women leadership in Nairobi.
Okuta, on the other hand, has attracted wide support from women across different wards. Her candidacy is being seen as the beginning of a new era that seeks to energize the party’s base and reconnect with women voters who feel sidelined.
The Nairobi ODM women are expected to push harder for leadership change in the coming weeks, setting the stage for a defining moment in the party’s internal politics.
