Cyberweek Africa 2025 Summit Kicks off in Nairobi

The Kenya School of Government (KSG) in Nairobi became the epicenter of Africa's digital future today as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, H.E. Hon. William Kabogo Gitau, officially inaugurated Cyberweek Africa 2025 (CWA).
The continent’s premier summit on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI), running from October 27-31, has convened a formidable assembly of industry leaders, experts, academia, and innovators. The conference aims to forge effective strategies to address Africa's most pressing digital challenges.

In his keynote address, CS Kabogo underscored the critical importance of the summit's theme, "Compliance by Design." He articulated that this approach is fundamental to securing Africa's digital future by systematically embedding trust, ethics, and resilience directly into the fabric of the continent's digital governance and infrastructure.

The Cabinet Secretary acknowledged CWA 2025 as a vital platform for reflecting on diverse ways to build a secure, robust, and resilient digital future. He detailed the Kenyan government's proactive steps in bolstering its cyber defenses.

"The Government of Kenya has embraced various safety mechanisms and policies to cushion the nation against cyber threats such as data theft, AI-driven intrusion, phishing, and ransomware," CS Kabogo stated.

Striking a unifying and aspirational tone, he called for continental collaboration, declaring, "Together in unity and collaboration, Africa has what it takes to build an advanced digital ecosystem with impactful digital sovereignty, prioritising cybersecurity as a central pillar of development."
The opening ceremony was graced by a host of distinguished local and international dignitaries, signalling the global significance of the event. Among those in attendance were the Israeli Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Gideon Behar; the Ambassador of Slovakia to Kenya, H.E. Maroš Mitrík; KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed; and the Managing Director of Huawei Kenya, Mr. Samuel Cheng.

Also present were senior government officials and private sector leaders, including the Secretary for ICT, Security and Audit Control, Mr. Emmanuel Kimeu, as well as the Executive Chairman of Cyberpro Global, Mr. Preston Odera, and its CEO, Mr. John Mutunga.

Cyberweek Africa 2025 is set to continue throughout the week, featuring high-level panel discussions, expos, and workshops focused on shaping a secure and ethically sound digital trajectory for the African continent.
