Iyanii Takes the Captain’s Seat as Captain Morgan Launches Bold New ‘Muck Pit’ Drink

By Njeri Irungu

Nakuru, Kenya — It was all fire, flavour, and fierce energy this past weekend as Captain Morgan unveiled its newest creation — Captain Morgan Muck Pit — and named Kenya’s very own Iyanii as the brand’s new ambassador.
The launch, held at the Rift Valley Sports Club in Nakuru, was nothing short of a vibe. From booming beats to bursts of colour and the signature Captain Morgan flair, the night set the tone for a brand that’s ready to shake up Kenya’s nightlife scene.

Headlining acts Mejja, Tipsy Gee, and Iyanii kept the crowd on its feet, but the biggest reveal came when the Pombe hitmaker was officially crowned Captain of the Muck Pit Crew. His appointment as brand ambassador was the perfect match — his creative fire and bold personality mirror everything the new drink stands for: energy, originality, and flavour that doesn’t hold back.

Iyanii wasted no time showing he’s got both swagger and spirit, leading Team Iyanii Captain Morgan Muck Pit in a sizzling “Battle of the Grill” showdown against Team Mejja Captain Morgan Gold — a face-off that left the audience chanting for more.

"The Captain Morgan Muck Pit is about more than just flavour — it’s a whole mindset. It’s about being daring, unexpected, and absolutely flavour-forward in everything you do," said Kennedy Mutula, Head of Spirits. "Iyanii embodies that spirit perfectly. We’re thrilled to have him onboard as we launch this exciting new chapter for Captain Morgan."

Inspired by the legendary Caribbean ‘muck pits’ — where ripe fruit ferments with rum under tropical heat to create deep, fruity notes — the new Captain Morgan Muck Pit Melon Splash brings that heritage to Kenya with a modern twist. It’s bold, tropical, and playfully smooth, blending sweet watermelon, a hint of mint, a touch of smoke, and Captain Morgan’s iconic spice.

But Muck Pit isn’t just a drink — it’s a movement. Captain Morgan is teaming up with Nairobi Apparel District, the trend-setting fashion collective known for pushing boundaries in streetwear and design. Together, they’re weaving the Muck Pit attitude into Kenyan fashion, music, and culture.

The rollout doesn’t stop there. A lineup of culture-shaping talents — including rapper Big Yasa and DJ Deewiz — will be amplifying the Muck Pit vibe through events and collaborations that celebrate creativity, self-expression, and Kenya’s fast-rising youth culture.

"Captain Morgan is now officially a catalyst for the ‘extra ordinary,’" said Kanyi Kiuru, Brand Manager for Captain Morgan Muck Pit. "By partnering with creative powerhouses like Iyanii, Big Yasa, DJ Deewiz, and Nairobi Apparel District, we’re making Muck Pit more than just a drink — it’s a lifestyle."

The Captain Morgan Muck Pit Melon Splash, bottled at 37.5% ABV, can be enjoyed with Sprite, Stoney, or water for a refreshingly crisp mix — or used as a base for a bold fruit punch. And this is just the beginning. More flavours, collabs, and Muck Pit moments are on the horizon as Captain Morgan continues to stir up Kenya’s music, fashion, and nightlife scenes.
