Coast Gold Winners Idd Munga and Elizabeth Muema Awarded KES 1,000,000 by Tujiamini by SportPesa

Recognised for tackling environmental challenges in Kilifi and building economic opportunity
through crochet training in Mombasa, both winners will receive KES 500,000 each to scale their
impact.
Mombasa, Kenya, 6/12…Two Coast region innovators, Idd Munga and Elizabeth Muema, have
been awarded the KES 1,000,000 SportPesa Tujiamini Gold Prize, each receiving KES 500,000
to scale projects that are transforming lives across Kilifi and Mombasa counties. Their work
stood out for its strong community impact and clear vision for long-term change.

In Rabai, Kilifi County, Idd Munga’s is tackling environmental degradation and community
vulnerability through a simple but powerful model. The project plants trees to restore the
semi-arid landscape, then uses the income from mature trees to provide sanitary pads to young
girls and women in the community.

The KES 500,000 award will help him scale. His next steps include installing water tanks to
sustain seedlings, acquiring additional seedlings from the Ministry of Agriculture, and
constructing a small shelter that can host community training sessions. He is also bringing local youth together to revive the Rabai Football Club and create more opportunities for growth and
mentorship.

In Mombasa, fellow Gold winner Elizabeth Muema is empowering women and youth through her
initiative, LaDenser Crochets, which teaches crochet as a creative skill for income generation.
Her workshops and online tutorials support stay-at-home mothers, jobseekers, and young
creatives who want to turn their craft into small businesses.

Reflecting on her journey, Elizabeth shared, “After Covid, business declined and the cost of
operations made it difficult to stand on my feet again. Winning KES 500,000 through Tujiamini
has given me the chance to strengthen my business model, purchase better tools and materials,
and create higher-quality tutorial content. My goal is to teach and uplift more women and youth
by helping them build meaningful skills in crochet and creative entrepreneurship.”

Japheth Akhulia, Head of Partnerships and Sponsorships from SportPesa acknowledged the
significance of both projects, noting that their wins reflect the purpose and spirit of the Tujiamini
platform. He said, “Idd and Elizabeth reflect the spirit of Tujiamini. Their work shows how belief,
creativity, and community ownership can unlock real progress. We are proud to support
