Hon Dorcas Mwigereri Makes Emotional Appeal for 100 Percent School Transition During Dandora Visit
By Steve El Sabai
Hon Dorcas Mwigereri the Asipiring Embakasi North MP has appealed to President H.E William Ruto to ensure a 100 percent transition of learners from primary school to junior secondary education, saying the move is vital to protecting the future of children from vulnerable communities.
Speaking during an emotional visit to Dandora Secondary School, Mwigereri said no child should be left behind due to poverty or social challenges, noting that full transition would help keep young people in school and away from crime, drugs, and other social vices common in informal settlements.
During the visit, Mwigereri recognized outstanding academic excellence by rewarding Aggrey Munandi, the best student of 2025 at Dandora Secondary School, who scored an impressive A minus despite facing extreme hardship.
Munandi’s story moved many in attendance after it emerged that he often skipped classes to work at construction sites to raise money for school fees and help feed his family, yet still excelled academically.
Munandi, accompanied by his mother, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school administration and teachers for standing by him throughout his academic journey. His mother thanked the school for believing in her son during their most difficult moments, saying the support and encouragement from teachers played a critical role in his success.
Mwigereri described Munandi’s achievement as a powerful demonstration of resilience and determination, noting that it highlighted the importance of investing in education for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
She also presented a token of appreciation to teachers at Dandora Secondary School, praising their commitment and sacrifice in nurturing academic excellence under challenging circumstances.
Dandora Secondary School Principal Eutychus Maina Thiong’o urged all stakeholders to invest in and support the school so it can fully realize its potential in nurturing some of the best students in the area. He said that with improved infrastructure, adequate learning resources, and stronger community support, the school can consistently produce top performing students despite the challenges facing the surrounding community.
Mwigereri has remained a key advocate in the fight against crime and drug abuse in Dandora. Through the Dorcas Mwigereri Foundation, she continues to empower youth and women by creating opportunities that promote education, skills development, and economic independence.
She reaffirmed her commitment to working with community leaders and national institutions to ensure education remains the most effective pathway to breaking cycles of poverty and social vulnerability in urban settlements.
