Kenya Cup Second Edition Officially Launched as KVF, Sponsors Eye Bigger, More Competitive Tournament

By James Nyaigoti,

The second edition of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Kenya Cup was officially launched on Thursday at the KCB Sports Club, Nairobi, marking a significant milestone for the growth of volleyball in the country and the region.
The colourful launch brought together key national leaders and stakeholders, including KVF President Mr. Nyaberi, KVF CEO, Members of Parliament led by Hon. Mutot Kuresoi, the Government Spokesperson, NGEC CEO Dr. Purity Ngeni, and Nairobi Rivers Commissioner and CEO Hon. Chebichi Lelei, among other dignitaries. Several corporate sponsors were also present, underscoring growing private sector confidence in the tournament.

Speaking during the event, KVF President Nyaberi described the Kenya Cup as a unique competition designed to raise the standards of volleyball in the country.
“The Kenya Cup is a very unique tournament. Initially, we wanted something to keep teams active during the off-season, but it has grown into a major national competition. This is now the second edition, and tournaments of this calibre require full international standards,” Nyaberi said.

He added that the federation’s vision is to make the tournament highly competitive and attractive both locally and internationally, while giving players meaningful exposure.

“We want to make this tournament very colourful and competitive in the region, and ensure teams truly compete at a high level,” he emphasized.
On sponsorship, KVF Deputy President and Vice Chairperson, Uasin Gishu Branch, Mr. Paul Bitok, noted that the federation will compile final figures to determine the total sponsorship value for the 2026 edition.
“Various sponsors were present today. We will be compiling our figures to know the exact value of sponsorship for this tournament,” Bitok said, highlighting the growing interest from corporate partners.
MY WOOD’s Commitment to Sports Development
One of the standout sponsors of the Kenya Cup is MY WOOD Trading Company, whose leadership reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to nurturing sports talent in Kenya.

Introducing herself, Ms. Kathy Andrews, CEO of MY WOOD Trading Company, said the decision to sponsor the Kenya Cup was driven by a strong belief in supporting sports as a pillar of national development.
“Hello, my name is Kathy Andrews, CEO of MY WOOD Trading Company. We deal with timber and wood products. We have supported the Kenya Cup since season one in 2025, and we felt it was right to continue with the sponsorship. Supporting sports is supporting the nation,” she said.

Ms. Andrews explained that the partnership goes beyond brand visibility and is rooted in the company’s responsibility to give back to the community.
“We believe in giving back to the community. It starts with me and you. That’s how we encourage more sponsors to come on board, so that these talents can be nurtured and our children can grow their abilities,” she noted.

She added that MY WOOD’s motivation lies in seeing young athletes progress to international stages.
“Our happiness is seeing talent grow. When you see our children playing internationally and your brand is part of that journey, you feel proud because you have enabled them. Without support from companies and government, these young talents cannot go far,” Andrews said.
Beyond volleyball, MY WOOD has invested heavily in grassroots sports across the country.

“We are already at the grassroots. We support volleyball, kabaddi where we are the main sponsor in 2025 and several football clubs, including Mashinani teams and Alzizia FC in the Mount Kenya region,” she revealed.
She encouraged the public to follow the company’s sports initiatives online.

“You can find us on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook search ‘MyWood’. You will see what we do. We are number one when it comes to supporting sports,” she said.

MY WOOD Trading Company specializes in timber and wood products, which Ms. Andrews described as the company’s core business line.

With strong backing from the KVF leadership, government stakeholders, and committed sponsors such as MY WOOD, the Kenya Cup Second Edition is expected to set a new benchmark for volleyball tournaments in the country.

As preparations move into the competition phase, stakeholders expressed optimism that the tournament will not only raise performance standards but also position Kenya as a regional hub for high-quality volleyball competitions.
