UDA to Conduct Repeat Phase II Grassroots Elections Across 18 Counties

By Robert Njoya,

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is set to conduct its Repeat Phase II grassroots elections on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in a major exercise aimed at strengthening its internal democratic structures ahead of future political processes.
According to an official media briefing, the elections will take place across 18 counties, including Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Bungoma, Makueni, Machakos, Kitui, Isiolo, Marsabit, Taita Taveta, Lamu, Tana River, Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, and Turkana.

The exercise in Kajiado County has been scheduled separately for Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Massive Candidate Turnout.
The party has recorded significant participation, with over 450,000 candidates registered to contest for approximately 20 grassroots positions at polling centres. These positions represent diverse groups including women, youth, special interest groups, farmers, religious representatives, professionals, and MSMEs/traders.

UDA projects a turnout of about 8 million voters, who are expected to participate across more than 9,000 polling centres nationwide. This large-scale engagement reflects the party’s expanding grassroots network and mobilization efforts.
Technology-Driven Process. In a move to enhance transparency and efficiency, UDA will deploy 9,500 electronic voting tablets across polling stations. The party noted that the results will be made publicly accessible through its official website, reinforcing accountability in the electoral process.

Voting will commence at 8:00 AM and close at 5:00 PM on the scheduled day.
The elections are expected to yield 182,240 elected grassroots officials, who will carry a direct mandate from party members. These officials will play a critical role in shaping the party’s grassroots leadership and organizational structure.

UDA has already successfully conducted grassroots elections in 25 counties, marking steady progress in its nationwide internal electoral roadmap.
The Repeat Phase II exercise is seen as a key milestone for UDA as it consolidates its grassroots base, signaling its readiness for future political contests while emphasizing inclusivity, transparency, and technological innovation in party elections.
