The fourth edition of the Africa Food Show officially opened today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), bringing together over 200 exhibitors from more than 30 countries in a major push to transform the continent's agri-food sector, with the three-day event expected to attract over 6,000 visitors and facilitate more than 500 B2B meetings.
A key highlight was the high-level knowledge conference themed "Transforming Agrifood Systems for Healthy Diets: From Seed to Plate," which convened policymakers, private sector leaders, and development partners to tackle interconnected challenges of productivity, food safety, and rising diet-related diseases, with Dr. Tristan Evans of the International Trade Council noting that Africa's food sector presents significant opportunities for international trade and investment. Dr. Chandrajith of Cotecna delivered a keynote on leveraging science, testing, and digital assurance to strengthen food safety and expand global market access, while national pavilions from South Africa, Malaysia, Egypt, and China showcased innovations ranging from agricultural machinery to sustainable packaging.
David Wang, Chairman of MIE Events, emphasized that Kenya's market demands face-to-face relationship-building rather than catalogue-based sales, and with support from Kenya's Ministry of Agriculture and the FAO, the show's opening day has set strong momentum for trade partnerships and investment commitments as the event continues through August 21.
