She noted that the practice posses a significant challenge to farmers since some of the home made feeds fall short of the crucial ingredients. This, she asserted, leads to malnutrition and other deficiency diseases. 

“Some of the farmers try justifying making their own feeds by saying it's way cheaper than manufactured feeds. What some of them don't know is that cheap is actually expensive. Eventually, when the animals get sick, they end up spending more on treatment,” Wakio noted. 

Worse by far, Wakio shared that some of the farmers who go in search of cheaper feeds, most of which end up being adulterated, also fall victim of unscrupulous sellers.
