President Ruto Launches Sh314M Kisumu Air Traffic Control Tower, Hails Major Boost for Regional Aviation

KISUMU, Kenya — September 14, 2026 — President William Ruto today officially launched the state-of-the-art Sh314 million Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower at Kisumu International Airport, officially ushering in a new era for airspace safety and regional aviation connectivity across Western Kenya.  
The presidential unveiling follows the technical completion and system integration led by lead contractor Eng. Polycarp Mburo of Polish Contractors, working alongside the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).This modern facility will significantly enhance aviation safety, air traffic handling, and airspace management across the Lake Region, positioning Kisumu as a critical gateway for regional trade and transport," President Ruto declared during the commissioning ceremony.

A Modern Upgrade Replacing Aging Infrastructure
The newly commissioned 8-storey tower replaces the airport's decades-old control structure, introducing advanced 360-degree panoramic visual monitoring and high-tech communication and surveillance integration. Designed to meet global International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards, the facility allows Kisumu International Airport to expand direct international flight capabilities bypassing Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Speaking on the operational readiness of the project, Eng. Polycarp Mburo noted that the facility features dual raw and green energy integration, redundant power back-ups, and modern environmental waste management systems built to support long-term regional demand.
  
The project launch forms part of the President’s broader infrastructure tour in Nyanza, highlighting key public investments designed to stimulate economic growth, tourism, and seamless cross-border mobility across the Great Lakes region

NCPWD Disburses Ustawi Scholarships to Learners with Disabilities, Seeks Data Integration with Education Ministry
